AMSU advisor with UG link, absconding SDC arrested

Imphal, September 11 2022:
Imphal West district police commandos arrested a member of an outlawed organisation as well as advisor of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) along with a side arm from Khurai Kongpal on Saturday.
The arrested person has been identified as Thokchom Suresh alias Tombi alias Parihanba (39) son of Kumar Singh of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai.
Speaking to newspersons at SP Imphal West conference hall on Sunday, ADGP (L/O) Clay Khongsai informed that a team of district police commandos conducted operation in Khurai Kongpal area around 4.30 am on Saturday based on specific information about presence of members of some underground outfits and arrested Thokchom Suresh along with a .38 pistol, a magazine and a laptop.
The arrestee disclosed that he joined the outfit in 1997, underwent basic military training in Eastern Nagaland and was allotted army number 607 of 13th batch of banned organisation.
He reportedly worked for the outfit under the command of self-styled major Umakanta since 2021.He further revealed that the firearm was handed over to him by his commander through an unknown person at near JN Dance Academy in DM University campus in November 2021 along with conceding that he presently advisor of AMSU and convener of the advisory committee of the students' body.
Suresh confided that the seized laptop was handed over to him by his commander when he visited for AMSU foundation day held at Eastern Shine School, Moreh on August 28.The arrested person along with the seized items namely .38 pistol, magazine, laptop and two mobile phones have been handed over to Porompat police station for further actions, the ADGP said The IPS officer also appealed to student organisations not to have nexus with any anti-national and insurgent groups.
Moreover, those who are not students should not join any student organisation as it will create problem to the organisation, he cautioned.
While informing that further investigation is underway, Clay Khongsai said the case might be handed over to a central agency if required.
Meanwhile Sub-divisional collector (SDC) Chandel Md Nasimuddin, who is accused of forging 35 pattas and many land records and remained absconding for a long time, has been arrested on Sunday.
Addressing a press meet at the conference hall of SP Imphal West, ADGP Clay Khongsai informed that one SDO Shijalembi filed a report stating that many fake pattas had been issued after tampering 17-Chabok Sheet Number IV.
Based on the report, a police investigation was launched and it was found that one retired SK Th Nipamacha of Lilong Shantipur, currently suspended LASK Shah Daud, mandal Md Allauddin Khan of Lilong Kaleikhong Makhong and others were involved in the case.
After the police arrested the first three accused, it was found that they had allotted 19 acres of forest and state land to private individuals.
When the matter of around 35 pattas being forged and given away came to light, it was found that former SDC Chandel Md Nasimuddin of Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai had worked as an in-charge of SK Irong Chesaba and was the person who tampered the documents.
As such, police had been trying to arrest him after he went missing.
Fortunately, Nasimuddin was arrested on Sunday and he was found to be deeply involved in converting protected state land into revenue land and giving them away to private individuals during questioning, the ADGP conveyed.
