Imphal, February 05 2021:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) said that it is deeply concerned with the 'apathetic conduct' of the State Government over the protracted demand of Federation of Government College Teachers' Association Manipur (FEGOCTA) for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018 which was approved by the State Cabinet on August 6, 2020.The apex tribal student body of Manipur said in a statement that the demand for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulation 2018 began in December 2018 by teachers of Government colleges of the State under the banner of FEGOCTA by resorting to various forms of agitation like class boycott, sit in protest etc.
"This periodic and persistent agitation of teachers and the corresponding silent response of the Education (U) Department or the State Government did nothing good to any party but great loss to the academic career of the innocent college students for the past 2 years," ATSUM added.
The tribal student body further stated that even as the State Government continue to remain silent on demand of FEGOCTA, the ongoing agitation has entered day 7 with sit-in-protest in most of the Government colleges of the State.
It added that the resumption of the stir with a threat to boycott academic activities have negatively impacted on the sentiments/psychologies of thousands of students with semester exams in the corner.
ATSUM urged the State Government to immediately intervene and resolve the deadlock by issuing an order for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulation 2018 in Government colleges considering the plight of students.
