District level consultative workshop for revision of SAPCC held

Deputy Director, Brajakumarwhile speaking at the one day District Level Consultative Workshop for Revision of State Action Plan on Climate Change of Manipur (SAPCC-Ver 2) and preparation of District Environment Plan (DEP), informed that the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur is relentlessly working to bring out a policy on climate change.
Dr Brajakumar enlightened the gathering about the threat and impact of the reckless human activities which induce climate change.
The rapid changes in the atmospheric composition have influenced the climate cycle and "we are witnessing the severity in our nature", he added.
He mentioned mat the State Action Plan is programmed for short and long term mitigation policies.
Dr Brajakumar continued that the Environment and Climate Change Department is conducting exercises to understand the problems of every village.
The programmes were organized at the village level to understand the traditional knowledge on how to preserve the environment.
It is a collective responsibility and everyone is a stakeholder in the fight against climate change.
DFO Ukhrul, Shanngam Shaliwo elaborated on the various factors causing climate change.
The contemporary society must find a way to maintain a balanced ecological cycle and the preservation of forest is the most effective way to protect the environment.
Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul, Joseph Pauline Kamson urged the Heads of the Departments present to provide all necessary information to finalize and compile the Ukhrul District Environment Plan to the visiting officers and experts of the State.
The programme organised by the Mountain Indigenous Knowledge Centre, Ukhrul and sponsored by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change was also attended by 6th MR CO, Additional SP, SDO, NGOs, DLOs, department staff and CSOs of the districts.
