Govt notifies expansion of 79 major roads

Imphal, June 04 2022:
Keeping in view of traffic congestion with the increasing number of vehicle population in the state, the state government would be taking up expansion of 79 roads, which include state highways, and district and inter-village roads, in different districts.
Greater Imphal area has a total number of 57 roads enlisted for the expansion project of the state government, which will be taken up as part of the 100 Action Points for first 100 days and these 57 roads include 18 in Imphal West, 30 in Imphal East and 9 in Highway South region.
Kakching and Bishnupur have six and four roads respectively in the plan while Noney and Churachandpur have four each, Kamjong has two and Pherzawl & Senapati have one each.
Maximum of the roads will be expanded to a width of 7.5 metres.
Consequent to the notification, joint secretary (revenue) on Wednesday issued instructions to the DCs of the districts, where the road widening projects will take place, to issue necessary notification for land acquisition.
DC Imphal East has also issued a notification directing SDOs to take up necessary actions for fixing boundaries of the proposed roads including the width of the Right of Way (RoW) along with officials of the executive engineer of PWD Imphal East, and to submit a detailed report at the earliest.
Any encroachment on state land may also be evicted by observing due process of law, the order stated.
It also urged the public, who have houses, commercial shops and establishments adjacent to the roads mentioned in the notification to cooperate with the authority.
