Imphal, July 24 2026: The Meitei Society Churachandpur has sought the attention of the Government and Election Commission, seeking immediate steps to restore the names of IDP voters missing from the draft electoral roll of Churachandpur.

This appeal came days after as many as 737 Meitei voters of Churachandpur were found missing in the draft electoral roll after the recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The exclusion of the Meitei voters who are now displaced and staying in relief camps across the valley is a matter of grave concern and it calls for immediate corrective steps from the Election Commission and the Government, said Ningthoujam Ramesh, general secretary, Meitei Society Churachandpur, speaking to reporters at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

Ramesh said there were around 6,000 Meitei voters in Churachandpur during 2002-2003 .

He said the Meitei voters of Churachandpur were found missing in the draft electoral roll even though they had submitted the enumeration forms during the SIR exercise.

In the draft electoral roll, many voters have been remarked as absent and untraceable, he said.

Further, there have also been incidents where voters have been asked to submit birth certificates, he added.

The authorities concerned should understand the plight of the Meitei IDP voters and take concrete and immediate steps to include their names in the final electoral roll, Ramesh said.

During the period of claim and objection, he said, the authorities concerned must appoint Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) for special hearing of the issues related to the IDPs .
