Police being the backbone of good governance, the state government is working towards boosting morale of the police force and strict action will be taken against any officials who use any form of bribery in promotion, transfer and posting in the police department, chief minister N Biren said in Monday's siting of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly session.
Clarifying on the arguments raised by Opposition members during discussion on demand for grants of home department moved in the House by himself, chief minister N Biren, who also holds the home portfolio, informed that the police being vital component of the government has capabilities to bring a good system in the society and accordingly the state government is providing quality uniform, good vehicles, weapons and equipment to boost morale of police force.
In his clarification to the Motions raised by Opposition members K Meghachandra, Th Lokeswar and Surjakumar Okram, N Biren claimed that relation between police and public has improved significantly since the coming of the BJP led government.
The Government is taking up steps to improve police-public relation further and respective SPs and OCs are holding talks with local leaders including clubs and Meira Paibi, he said.
On war against drugs, Biren said that the present government is going to procure various kits approved by the World Health Organisation which have the capacity to detect Heroin or any kind of illegal drugs transported in vehicles by drug dealers.
This machine could even detect drugs hidden inside the bonnet of vehicles, he added.
The chief minister also informed that the police department is setting up a dedicated team to tackle cyber-crime with provision of modern equipment and technologies in view of the threat posed by social media to create communal enmity.
The police department is providing training with all sorts of facilities at Pangei Police Training centre, he added.
Regarding missing of Border Pillars along the boundary with Myanmar, the chief minister said that there is no chance of shifting BPs as internationally approved GPS coordinating acceptance machine is being used.
Border issue being international matter of the two neighbouring countries, there has been no latest report from the Centre on border matters though report has been received of meeting local chiefs, he said and further informed the House that border fencing will also be taken up in Behiang area of Churachandpur district.
While assuring that the government is fully committed in promoting women in police department, the chief minister said that the present government will soon create an Inspector (female) post in the department as per the requirements.
