Church leaders discuss current political trend

A one day consultation seminar on current issues for Church leaders was held at Baptist Church, Saikul organised under the aegis of All Manipur Christians' Organisation (AMCO) today.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev S Prim Vaiphai, President, AMCO pointed out that instance of booth capturing, proxy voting, incessant use of drugs and alcohol and planting of Ganja and Poppy, over and above imposition of bandhs and blockades on NHs of the state are mainly carried out by the Christian community.
So, all the Church leaders and Pastors of the state should try their level best to bring all the Christian followers to the right path.
He further pointed out that Manipur is filled with corruption today.
The people who are right in every aspect have turned out to be a minority in the state.
Every individual is made to speak up against their own wishes at the point of a gun or by the power of money.
At this point of time, all the Pastors in the hill districts of the state should come out together in one voice and tell the Christian wrong doers, whether they are UG groups or not, to desist from the path, which is against Christian religion and follow the right path.
All the Pastors have to stand by this principle even at the cost of their lives, Rev Prim Vaiphei exhorted.
At the end of the seminar, the Declaration, which had unanimously resolved after a series of meeting organised by AMCO at all the Hill district head quarters as well as at Moreh and Pallel, had also been adopted.
The latest meeting was reportedly held on August 31, 2011 at Synod Hall Churachandpur.
It was attended by more than 65 Church leaders from about 30 denominations.
The Declaration includes following the Election Code of Conduct during the election; avoiding proxy/bogus voting, booth capturing and violence; to constitute a forum which can initiate and invite all the candidates to come and share their Manifestoes on an appointed day to avoid unnecessary wastage of time, money and energy both by the candidates and the public and also to reduce enmity between the rivals; to know the desirable candidates; to appeal to all government employees to attend their offices and schools regularly; to appeal to all the national (UG) workers to maintain peace, unity and progress of the people to avoid meddling in election; to request the Pastors and Preachers to create awareness for their congregation on the rules of election, work ethics, integrity and dignity of labour etc; to appeal to the Church leaders to see that regular and fervent prayer be made in the Sunday services and organize Fasting Prayer from time to time and to pray over Polling stations before Vote; to include people from all walks of life to be faithful and honest to their works and to maintain social harmony and peace among the different communities so that there will be overall development in all area of the state and finally to appeal to all government officers who are posted in the Hills, such as the SDOs and BDOs to be available in their respectively places of posting to facilitate development works and be close to the people.
