Bomb attacks on Congress continue

Bomb attacks on the residences of Congress workers and candidates suspected to be by the CorCom still continue in while Bishnupur district police commando nabbed a cadre of KYKL who tried to disrupt a meeting organised by Congress party today.
A hand grenade was found at the residence of a Congress worker, Waikhom Sonachand (43), located at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai today morning around 6.30 .
In another two similar incidents of bomb threat, Kakching Khunou residence of Khumukcham Gokulchand (65) and the residence of Mayanglambam Chandramani (70) located at Kakching Khunou Hijam Sana Khongnang Leikai were also attacked with hand grenades which failed to go off yesterday night.
Kh Bokul and Chandramani are active workers of Congress for the ensuing elections.
Denouncing the threats carried out by unidentified persons to the said two Congress workers, a sit-in-protest was staged at Kakching Khunou Bazar today.
In yet another incident, the residences of Loitongbam Basanta (55) and Angom Dilip (38) of Wangoo Laipham Awang Leikai were also fired upon several times at around 2.30 am today.
No casualty was reported from the spot though a generator was burned by the attackers.
In another incident, a hand grenade which also failed to go off was found at the Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak residence of N Gojen, a Congress worker, at around 7.45 am.
All four hand grenades were collected by police personnel today morning.
In continuation of the attacks on the Congress, a Congress office situated at Umathel area was also damaged in a fire in the intervening night of January 7 and 8 .
In connection with the incident, the local Congress supporters of Umathel area organised a sit-in-protest in front of the office today.
Meanwhile, Bishnupur police district commando arrested a KYKL cadre from Moirang area today early morning at around 2 .
Speaking to the press, SP Bishnupur Th Radheshyam said that the district police has taken up various counter insurgency operations to control the attacks carried out by various UGs on candidates and workers of the forthcoming Assembly elections in the district.
He mentioned that as part of the operation, a KYKL cadre has been arrested today morning from Moirang area along with a Chinese hand grenade and one 9mm pistol of Wills and Smith brand along with nine live rounds from his possession, said the SP .
The arrested cadre was identified as Moirangthem Manaoba (20) alias Grem s/o Nilamani of Ngangkhalawai Awang Leikai, he added.
The SP further maintained that the weapons were given to Manaoba by two other cadres of the group to disrupt a meeting to be held at Moirang Kongjengbam Leikai today.
In addition to this, the district police also arrested two cadres including a woman cadre of a KCP faction along with a hand grenade on January 1 .
Highlighting the arrest of another KCP cadre by the district police on January 4, Radheshyam alleged that the three arrested KCP cadres were assigned by the group to attack the residence of sitting MLA M Prithiviraj Singh of Moirang AC .
The district police has taken up various initiatives to effectively control the attacks launched by CorCom in the district, he added.
Earlier, the CorCom asked all the people to stay away from Congress party and also to desist from participating in any election-related activities of the party.
