CorCom strikes on Congress unabated, sit-in protests held

Imphal, January 09 2012:
Even as Co-ordination Committee (CorCom) of the seven UG groups continues its attacks on the workers and intending candidates of Congress in the upcoming 10th State Legislative Assembly election, sit-in protest demonstrations were staged at various places denouncing hurling and blasting of bombs in public places.
A hand grenade was hurled around 9:30 last night at the courtyard of one Congress worker M Chandramani at Kakching Sana Khongnangkhong Laikai.
The bomb was later retrieved by Waikhong Police.
Another bomb was also recovered by police from the courtyard of one Khumukcham Gokulchand of Kakching Khunnou this morning.
The bomb was reported to have been hurled by unknown persons last night.
Cadres of CorCom set ablaze a Congress Office at Umathel around 11 pm yesterday.
Local people managed to put off the fire before causing much damage.
Protesting against the hurling of bombs at the houses of the workers of Minister K Ranjit , people of Kakching Khunou area staged a protest demonstration at Kakching Khunnou bazaar today.
A similar protest demonstration was also carried out at Umathel by the local people decrying the act of burning of Congress office.
Meanwhile, suspected cadres of CorCom reportedly fired several rounds of bullets at the house of one Congress worker, Laitonjam Basanta of Wangoo Laipham Awang Leikai early morning today.
Two rounds of bullets were fired at the house of one Samom Dilip of the same locality apart from burning a generator placed in his courtyard.
In yet another bomb attack, suspected cadres of CorCom reportedly hurled a hand grenade at the house of one Congress worker Ningombam Gojen at Nagamapal today morning.
Police later picked up the bomb and safely defused it at Lamphel area.
