Sit-in-protest held at Lembakhul

Denouncing the act of gun threat carried out by a masked unidentified person for monetary demand of Rs 50 thousand at the residence of L Chihanpum located at Lembakhul, the villagers of Lembakhul and Larung Khul have staged a sit-in-protest today.
Staged at the Lembakhul community hall, the protesters used placards which were read as "don't ask for monetary demands to the villagers", "no more threats with arms to the civilians" and "let us live in peace" .
The incident was happened yesterday night at around 8 pm in the residence of L Chihanpum (60) s/o Late Yaima located at Lembakhul situated near Ngarian Hills, around 15 km away from Imphal.
Speaking to the press, L Chihanpum said that the masked man who came with a small arm was speaking Manipuri language very well.
He informed that most of villagers were in the Church for a routine religious service while the gun man entered his house and threatened him to give Rs 50 thousand.
On being replied that the demanded amount was not available, the man offered another option of giving Rs 20 thousand or less.
The masked man also used a small arm suspected to be a pistol while threatening the family.
He further informed that the man left the house after taking Rs 5 thousand while the church goers started returning to the village.
The president of Lembakhul Meira Paibi group MS Awon further urged the authority concerned to take punitive actions against the miscreants who attempted to interrupt the peace and co-existence of the villages.
