Imphal, December 30 2012:
Strongly refuting to the version of the PIB-Defence Wing on the alleged picking up and harassment incident of two civilians inckuding a student union leader at Noney few days ago, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and Zeliangeong Students Union Manipur (ZSUM) clarified the two civilians in question do not have any nexus with any militant outfit.
Yesterday, the PIB-Defence Wing alleged that David Kamei who is the secretary, information and publicity, ZSUM and one Obed Kamei, a civilian helped the NSCN-K and NNC cadres escaped in the Hyundai Accent car driven by David Kamei after alighted from one white Scorpio jeep at the mobile check post of the 10th Assam Rifles at Noney in Tamenglong district.
ZYF and ZSUM terms the version of the PIB-Defence Wing as totally a concocted tale.
"The claimed that the 10th Assam Rifles followed the Hyundai Accent car being driven by Mr.David Kamei, in which according to PIB (DW)'s version, supposedly, the underground cadres were also travelling altogether but escaped, unable to nab was a sadden tale.
The fact is that the 10th Assam Rifles has taken into custody the occupants of the car along with their vehicle (white Scorpio jeep) probably still in their custody therefore, any information extracted during interrogation from the occupants of the Scorpio jeep could be unrelated or unconnected to David Kamei and his friend thereby they were subsequently released," the ZYF and ZSUM stated.
Both the Zeliangrong organisations further clarified that David Kamei was slapped, blind folded, stripped, made to sit without clothes for hours at night.
"The PIB (DW) claimed that the duo had been released by the 10th Assam Rifles following the plea of their family members and considering their young ages is totally unacceptable.
The two civilians were actually released after having had verified and established their antecedents, also probably from the version extracted during interrogation from the occupants of the Scorpio vehicle as there was no relation between the occupants of the Scorpio jeep and the Accent car.
It is also unbecoming of on the part of PIB (DW) to heap baseless charges especially on the responsible student leader after their release.
The PIB-DW accused the two civilians as 'actively involved in creating problems during bandhs and blockade", the Zeliangrong bodies added and criticised the security force by saying that these security forces can arrest the civilians at will but they could not nab the arsonists of Manipur Assembly Secretariat or book till date.
"The ZYF and ZSUM have been selflessly playing pivotal role with the endeavor to bring peaceful environment in our areas as such the Assam Rifles should stop harassing the student leaders as it may spoil the peaceful atmosdphere.
The PIB (DW) terming the universally saying proverbial 'fox in sheep's skin' as un-parliamentary language however, dubbed the student leaders as 'miscreants'.
Such comment is never expected to have been issued by PIB (DW).
The ZYF-ZSUM believe that it is the duty of every security force personnel to ensure peace and secure environment for all citizens," the Zeliangrong organisations advised.
