Imphal, December 30 2012:
Clarifying over the so called 'stripping of security cover' of Ukhrul A/C MLA Samuel Risom as reported in some sections of the media, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, has clarified that there was no such case as stripping of security cover.
Talking to media persons today, Gaikhangam said that the report which came out in some local papers was really unfortunate.
He explained that on December 28, a number of MLAs and Ministers, who had tour programmes in certain hill areas of the State, were prohibited by the Home Department to cancel their appointments on security grounds as there was bandh called by UNC in all the Naga inhabited areas and refused all request for additional security.
So, all MLAs and Ministers cancelled their trips to the hill areas for obvious reasons.
However, MLA Samuel Risom, defied the advice of the Home department and went off to Hunpung village in Ukhrul to attend a function without any additional security, other than those placed as his house guards.
However, on reaching Lamlai, the police stopped the MLA and his team from proceeding further telling that they could not allow without the approval of Home Department and at the same they could not take the responsibility if any unwanted incident happens on the way.
So his security personnel stayed back at Lamlai Police Station and MLA Samuel Risom went alone to Hunpung to attend the function, Gaikhangam clarified.
The Home Department was only taking up necessary security arrangement to prevent any unwanted incidents in the interest of the people.
Occurrence of any unwanted incidents could create more problems in the already chaotic state, Gaikhangam observed.
