Imphal, December 30 2012:
Condemning the alleged silent attitude of the State Government over the demands of non absorption of Judges of Gauhati high Court in the High Court of Manipur except those appointed from Manipur, High Court Bar Association has convened a meeting on January 2, 2013 to discuss further course of actions to be taken up in pursuance of its demands.
Addressing media persons at his Keishampat residence today, senior advocate N Kumarjit stated that a separate high court is soon to be functional in the State.
The judges of Manipur High Court should be selected from the State.
The judges from the Gauhati High Court who are from Manipur should be appointed as the judges of the Manipur high Court and not from among the other judges from outside the State.
The High Court Bar Association has on a number of occasions pressed the Union Law Minister and the Chief Minister of Manipur in this regard, but no positive actions have been taken up so far.
So, a meeting has been convened on January 2, 2013 to discuss further course of actions to be taken up.
He also asserted that there are many qualified persons who are fit to be judges in the High Courts.
Under normal circumstances, 7 judges are appointed in the High Courts.
As such, when the Manipur high Court is made functional, there ought to be 7 judges and they should be selected from the qualified persons of the State.
