Only sports can keep us healthy, doctors away: Biswajit

Stating that 'Health is Wealth', forest minister and Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) president Th Biswajit has stated that only sports that can make one healthy and keep the doctors away us.
Speaking as chief guest of the closing ceremony of the 20th Hill Districts Badminton Championship, 2022 held at Multi-Purpose Indoor Hall, Rikhumai Taphou here on Thursday, Biswajit pointed out that MLAs have joined the Association not to make a platform for themselves or enhance their profile, but to encourage sports and pass on the sporting spirit to the youngsters.
While India is aiming to become master in the field of sports, every national leader has recognised the contributions Manipur made for the country in the field of sports thus far.
With improvement of sports infrastructures in the state, Manipur players can excel further, he said.
Biswajit continued that sports promote unity and oneness with no division on the basis of religion, caste, creed or language and also expressed happiness, on learning that three players from Hill District Badminton Association, Manipur (HDBAM) participated in the national level badminton tournaments and brought laurels for the state.
Biswajit stressed that sports can stop youth from indulging in intoxicants and keep them fit and healthy.
With support from all sections, the 'War on Drugs' mission of chief minister N Biren has gathered momentum in curbing poppy cultivation in the state, he said, while adding that by encouraging the youth to take up sports, there would be no drug user even if illicit drugs are available in market.
Karong MLA J Kumo Sha, who was also present at the programme as functional president, stated that the country is trying to improve in sports and he expressed belief that sportspersons from the state will reach greater heights.
The closing ceremony was also attended by Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar and Mao MLA L Dikho as guests of honour, while ex-MLA M Prithviraj Singh and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash were present as special guests along with IGP (Admin) IK Muivah, additional SP ML Kaishungbou and different CSO leaders.
An exhibition match between chief guest's team versus HDBAM team was also played before the final match.
More than 600 shuttiers took part in the Taphou championship the next edition of which will be held in Churachandpur district next year.
