Nagaland Village Guards attack Soraphung villagers, one hurt

Soraphung villagers have to flee for life as they came under heavy armed attack from village guards (VG) stationed at Kajang village of Nagaland.
One Ngachonmi of Soraphung village, under Jessami Block of Ukhrul district, sustained gunshot injury after the village guards stationed at Kajang village under Meluri district of Nagaland attacked Soraphung villagers, who were working in the wet paddy fields along Manipur-Nagaland border at about 9am.Local reports said that more than 20 Village Guards from Nagaland's village Tajang armed with rifles descended on the fields where Manipur's Soraphung villagers with a land tiller were working for paddy plantations in their fields.
In the sudden attack, more than 60 rounds of gunfire and two bomb explosions were heard while four huts were torched.
Apart from vandalizing all the properties in the farm including, Rs.75,000 in cash was also allegedly stolen by the attackers.
The attack from neighbouring village of Nagaland, sources said, could be an outcome of land dispute between Soraphung and Tajang.
Locals informed that the two villages have been entangled in land dispute since time immemorial.
