Imphal, May 15 2014 :
Protesting demolition of Ibudhou Pakhangba Ibendhou Leisana temple, located at Heingang Hanna Ching and decrying police inaction regarding the incident, a 12-hour State-wide general strike has been called with effect from 6 am tomorrow.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, JAC Ibudhou Pakhangba Ibendhou Leisana Khubam Kanba Lup Convenor N Sorojini Leima said that a religious ceremony was performed at the shrine of Ibudhou and Ibendhou at Heingang Hanna Ching, located to the east of Heingang Police Station yesterday.
Art and Culture Director Dr K Sobita and IGP S Manglemjao were also present at the ceremony, she added.
Soon after traditional and religious ceremonies were held, some people of Meitei Pangal community allegedly demolished the temple and dispersed the ceremonial items offered to the deities, she said.
Sorojini added, it is true that some parts of Hanna Ching was given to the people of Meitei Pangal community during the time of former MLA Jagor.
However, the shrine is not located at the area which was given to them, she claimed.
Decrying the 2nd OC of Heingang Police Station, Sorojini alleged that instead of stopping the demolition, he asked the Meitei people not to take photographs of the incident.
Condemning his attitude, Sorojini also demanded action against the police officer.
A complaint has been lodged at Heingang Police Station regarding the incident.
