JE, Dengue cases inch closer to 100 in CCpur

CCpur, August 30 2019:
Japanese Encephalitis and Dengue cases in Churachandpur is inching towards the hundred mark, barely three months after the first case was detected in the district, according to data available to the press.
The JE virus was first diagnosed on May 10 with the latest accumulative figure recorded at 84 as of yesterday.
The cases of Dengue were 10, a relatively small figure when equated with the previous years when it witnessed an outbreak.
Scrub Typhus which is spread through the bites of infected mites found in animal also recorded 6 cases, in addition.
The first case of Scrub Typhus was detected on July 22 at Lingsiphai, Nomjang, Misao Lhahvom, Bungmual and New Lamka villages.
The JE cases are reported from JNV Tuinom, Simveng, Tuibong, K Salbung, Lungchin, G Mualkoi, Tollen, Zenhang Lamka, V Munhoih, B Aizalon, Dorcas Veng, Hebron Veng, Vengnuam, New Bazar, Khominthang, Mata, Meitei Leikai, Mission Road, and Kanan Veng while Dengue was diagnosed from people hailing from the villages of Lei-matak, Hmuntha, Zouveng, K Salbung, Dongjang, Bukpi and Mandop Leikai.
As these viruses and disease have no specific treatment and cure, the treatments are mostly supportive, said sources from the IDSP Churachandpur, the agency at the forefront in combating the menace.
Avoiding mosquito bite is the most effective preventive measure that can be taken up to ward off the viruses, they added.
Significantly five people have already died from Japanese Encephalitis in the State this year while many more have been infected.
Preventive measures have been taken up in different parts of the State and treated mosquito nets have also been distributed at the vulnerable areas of the State by the authority concerned.
