Tree saplings named after girl's names in BBBP campaign

Promoting the cause of the girl child under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, hundreds of mothers in Kangpokpi district planted tree saplings and named them their respective child's name.
Promoting the BBBP campaign, hundreds of mothers from Kangpokpi participated in the 'Tree plantation in the name of Girl Child' drive organized by District Programme Officer, ICDS Cell, Kangpokpi/Senapati at DC Campus today.
The trees were planted in the surrounding areas of DC Kangpokpi office complex.
Smartly moderated by Hmangte Hoijanei, supervisor, ICDS Project, Kangpokpi, the tree plantation drive was attended by DC Lalithambigai Kalidas, Miranda Zimik, DPO, ICDS Cell, Kangpokpi/Senapati and Ch Budhachandra, CDPO, ICDS Project, Kangpokpi.
The drive kicked off after the lady IAS officer, Lalithambigai inaugurated by planting a sapling in the name of a baby girl (Nunhoikim) in the presence of the child's mother while Miranda Zimik also planted a sapling in the name of another baby girl (Lhingjemkim) and Ch Budhachandra also planted a saplings in the name of a baby girl (Lhinghoikim) .
Rest of the mothers also joined to plant each sapling in the name of their respective girl child and all the child names were marked.
Speaking on the occasion, the lady district administrator said that despite several laws to safeguard women and children, there are still cases of sexual harassment, domestic violence and various other discriminations in the country.
However, she motivated that many women have broken the barrels in various sectors while many men have started to understand the women and began supporting them.
She said that Kangpokpi will soon have a 'one stop centre' for women with an aim to support victims of violence, in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at the work place.
Anganwadi workers were also present in the function and presented melodious songs.
