Imphal, August 30 2019:
Stating that the establishment of the Manipur University of Culture is a boon and a positive step towards promoting art and culture, Art & Culture Minister L Jayantakumar on Friday urged all to shed differences and collectively work towards a common goal to grow the varsity.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 3rd foundation day of the Manipur University of Culture, L Jayantakumar expressed grave concern that there are difference of opinions among the people regarding various indigenous culture and practices.
Pointing out that these differences are hindering the growth of the State, the Minister hinted that all should find a common platform and reach an agreement to work on as one towards common set goals.
"Promoting culture is not the responsibility of Minister and department officials.
People should lend their support and take active part in all developmental works.
Promoting culture needs collective efforts," Jayantakumar said.
Further, he said that the varsity needs to recruit adequate teachers and staff to run successfully.
The Centre is 'ready' to sanction funds for development of the varsity, he said urging all to work sincerely as one.
Various cultural programmes marked the celebration.
Bobby Waikhom, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture (MUC), Shivdas Sharma, Director Art & Culture and Dr Lourembam Surjit Singh, Registrar (i/c) MUC also attended the event as presidium members.
