The 13 hour general strike was called in accordance to a resolution adopted at a public meeting held today at Singjamei community hall under the aegis of the JAC constituted in connection with the murder of Gyanendro.
The meeting attended by representatives of civil organisations and the Imphal-Moreh Road Transporters' Union took strong exception to the Government's failure to establish any clue to the murder.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, one woman activist said that they arrived at the decision to call a 13 hour general strike as the three days period given to the Government for pulling up the culprits has lapsed.
In case the culprits could not be apprehended even after the general strike, another meeting would be convened to draw up further course of action.
Until then, the corpse would not be claimed, and this was decided in today's meeting, conveyed the woman activist.
35 year old Okram Gyanendro of Singjamei Okram Leikai was shot dead inside his own van by some unidentified persons on the bank of Chandranadi canal along Narankonjil Palli under Wangoi police station in Imphal West district in the afternoon of August 18 .
Gyanendro used to operate van service along Imphal-Moreh route and he is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Police claimed that two electronic circuit boards used in remote controlled IEDs were found fitted inside a toy car and toy bus which were discovered inside Gyanendro's van.
After the meeting, a protest rally was taken out towards the Chief Minister's office shouting slogans like "Book the murderers" but the protesters were blocked by police at Chingamathak.
Nonetheless, some representatives of the JAC were allowed to proceed.
Soon after the protest rally returned to the starting point, the protesters started blocking Imphal-Moreh road at Singjamei.
In no time, Singjamei market became deserted and all the shops were shut down.
