Singju Yokhatpa Lup (SYOL) and Singju Festival Committee, Manipur, jointly organised a tree plantation programme at Ningtam Ingkhol, Tekcham Maning Ching in Thoubal district today with an aim to promote the 2nd Singju Festival which is going to be held at MMRC Park in Khangabok from January 28 till February 8 on the theme, "Save our culture and identity", our correspondent reports.
The tree plantation programme was launched by Kh Menjor Mangang president of Singju Yokhatpa Lup with a view to promote the 2nd Singju festival.
Singju Festival Committee convener Rakesh Naorem said a mega marathon will be organised on January 25 from Kakching Lamkhai to the festival venue, that is MMRC Park, to promote the festival.
The main reason of conducting Singju Festival is to preserve the medicinal herbs which are the main ingredients in preparing Singju, Rakesh Naorem said.
Many activities like blood donation camp, film festival, Shumang Leela festival, writer's meet, book release function, symposiums, narrative arts, media interaction programme, meet the stars programme, tree plantation programme, fashion show, musical nite, essay competition, solo dance competition, science exhibition, poetry recitation and painting competitions will also be conducted in the coming days to promote the festival, he said.
More than 150 vegetables indigenous to the State would be used to make different kinds of Singju during the festival.
Leishangthem Tonthoi, brand ambassador of the 2nd Singju Festival; Ch Ranbir, chairman, Singju Festival Committee; Rajivkumar Narangbam, vice-chairman, Singju Festival Committee; Laimujam Pratap and Laishram Subhachandra, members of Singju Festival Committee, attended the launching programme.
