Anti Leprosy Day observed

As part of the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2023 & Anti-Leprosy Fortnight to be carried out from January 30 to February 13, District Health Society Thoubal and National Leprosy Eradication Programme Thoubal observed Anti Leprosy Day at Sangaiyumpham Primary Health Centre, Thoubal district today.
It was attended by CMO Thoubal, Dr Y Nokul; Sangaiyumpham Part-1 GP pradhan, Md Jakir; Sangaiyumpham PHC senior Medical Officer, Dr Ch Chandramani and Dr M Nomita Devi as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Y Nokul stated that World Leprosy Day is observed every year on the last Sunday of January as a tribute to the life of Mahatma Gandhi who had compassion for people afflicted with leprosy.

"The day is celebrated on January 30 every year, coinciding with the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to create awareness against the stigma attached to the disease", he added.
Sharing that 3 new cases of Leprosy were detected in Thoubal district, Dr Y Nokul urged all to provide their support in eradicating the disease from the State.
As part of the event, floral tributes were paid to a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi and gifts were presented to Leprosy patients.
