Imphal, January 30 2023:
Even though five of its six MLAs have joined BJP, Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Manipur State unit has written to the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker and the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretary to make sitting arrangement for its MLAs in the Opposition bench.
The letter reminded that JD-U, Manipur submitted a representation on September 12, 2022 informing the Governor of JD-U's withdrawal of support to the BJP-led State Government.
The same representation was also submitted to the Chief Minister and leader of the House on the same day, it said.
Notably, JD-U won six seats in the last State Assembly election but five of its MLAs later joined BJP.
Five JD-U MLAs namely; Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband AC), Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh AC), Md Achab Uddin (Jiribam AC), Thangjam Arunkumar (Wangkhei AC) and LM Khaute (Churachandpur AC) formally joined BJP on September 4 last year.
Md Abdul Nasir (Lilong AC) is now the lone JD-U MLA in the State.
