VDF missing case: JAC warns of indefinite stir

The JAC formed in connection with the missing of VDF jawan N Premananda has strongly decried the silence of the government and its machineries even after 10 days of the VDF jawan went missing during a poppy destruction operation, and warned of launching intense agitation from February 1 onwards.
N Premananda, a VDF jawan posted at Chingkham post, left for poppy destruction operation in Indo-Myanmar border area under Chandel district on January 16.He was reported missing on January 20 night.
Family members and local people alleged that the government is doing nothing to search for the missing jawan even after 10 days have passed since he was reported missing.
Instead, the family members are running from pillar to post to find the missing jawan.
Miffed with the attitude of the government, local residents of Thoubal Okram conducted a public meeting at Okram Lampak and formed a JAC on Monday.
Representatives of All Manipur VDF Welfare Association also attended the public meeting.
According to those who spoke at the meeting, N Premananda went missing in the night of January 20 and his mobile phone was ringing till January 22 .
They demanded to know why the government and police department are remaining silent and not launching a manhunt for the VDF jawan, who went missing while carrying out his duty for the government's war on drugs mission.
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president and All Manipur VDF Welfare Association chief advisor Wangkhemcha Shamjai also sought reason for the government's silence.
He said that he had spoken with the SP concerned and DGP in this regard, and assured of conferring with the CM soon.
Shamjai expressed dissatisfaction over the manner of handling the matter by the government, and urged the government to utilise all available resources and find out the whereabouts of the missing VDF jawan.
Interacting with the media after the meeting, JAC convenor N Wanglen said that Premananda went missing from Phaisi village area under Chakpikarong police station in Chandel district while on duty.
Demanding the government to find the missing VDF jawan by January 31, he said that the JAC along with CSOs and general public will launch intense indefinite agitation from February 1 onwards if the govern ment fails to act accordingly.
