Renowned lyricist Wahengbam Yaima condoled

Seirengbasingee Apunba Lup (SAL), body of lyricists at All India Radio, Imphal, has condoled the passing of renowned writer, lyricist and educational activist Wahengbam Yaima on Sunday around 2:30 am.
According to a statement issued by Moirangthem Jiban, general secretary SAL, members of the organisation observed a two-minute silence to mourn the demise of Wahengbam Yaima during a condolence meeting held on Sunday at the residence of Keisham Priyokumar, finance secretary of SAL, at Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai at 8 am.
The condolence meeting was presided over by Dr S Ibungochouba, president, SAL.
The gathering then offered prayers to the Almighty for the deceased soul to rest in peace and further shared in the grief of the bereaved family.
The statement also informed that the noted lyricist was born in 1948 on the 18th day of 'Thawan' (according to the Meitei lunar calendar) at Kumbi Awang Leikai.
Born to Wahengbam Dana Singh and Khemapati, he was the fourth child out of a total of seven.
He dedicated a substantial portion of his life to being an educationist and also played a vital role in the establishment of Kumbi College.
Aside from this, he was the first president of Kumbi Bazar Development Committee; vice-chairman of Kumbi Nagar Panchayat and an approved lyricist and playwright of All India Radio, Imphal as well as an important member of SAL.
In his capacity as a lyricist and playwright, he penned many songs and dramas in his attempt to bring about positive transformations in the State.
It may be noted that he also published many of his works during his lifetime, namely, Khollao (radio drama, 2015); Waheida Eramlabadi (poetry collection, 2016); Eibu Mou Oihanbiduna (novel); Phamung Phamangda (novel, 2018) and Epugi Mitsing Nashing Wapu (motivational book, 2020) .
