FEGOCTA submits memo

The Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) has submitted a memorandum to the Finance Commission demanding amongst others setting up of a women university and an IIT in the State.
Establishment of NE Social Science Research Centre, Model Degree College in each district of the State; conversion of some premier Govt colleges into constituent college of MU, extending ICT facilities to all colleges, to fully develop insfrastructure of existing colleges and to fill vacant posts as per UGC norms are the points raised by FEGOCTA to the Finance Commission yesterday.
The State's teachers' fraternity has also put forward the need of about Rs 1000 crore to meet the expenses for payment of pending 6th UGC ROP and 7th ROP which is soon to come; development of infrastructure and setting up of the proposed institutions.
According to a statement, the FEGOCTA president handed over the memo to the Chairman of the 14th Finance Commission headed by YV Reddy yesterday at the Conference Hall of Manipur Secretariat, South Block.
The teachers' memorandum also highlighted that the vision of India to join Global Knowledge Society (GKS) by 2020 with much emphasis on budgetary allocation in the XI Plan and more so in the XII plan has never reached the State.
