Imphal, October 09 2013 :
Apart from deliberating on the border fencing row along the Manipur-Myanmar border, the All Political Party meeting to be chaired by the Chief Minister tomorrow should discuss the border disputes in other parts of the State too, Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) has insisted.
Speaking to reporters at its office located at Luwangsangbam, ICHAM President N Rajendro (Boy) said it would be prudent if the issue of border disputes in other parts of the State surfaces in the All Political Parties meet to be held tomorrow.
It was very unfortunate that the Government as well as other political parties of the State maintained stoic silence over the encroachment of neighbouring Nagaland villagers in Dzuko Valley, he said.
Pointing out that frequent standoff occur between Tungjoy villagers of Senapati district and Kheshakenoma villagers of Nagaland's Phek district over land/border dispute, Boy said the Manipur villagers have misgivings at the adamant attitude of the Government as well as the people of the State to the issue.
In all the disputes with neigbouring Nagaland, the Government of Nagaland shows its presence to its citizens by implementing developmental works whereas the Govt of Manipur fails to do so.
Not only did the Govt fail to take up development measures, it has withdrawn security personnel deployed at disputed sites.
Memorandums submitted to the CM for implementing developmental projects in the disputed areas have fallen on a deaf ear, he said.
Saying that the time is already ripe to settle the border/land dispute in Jessami areas, Boy said people of the area are irked by the myopic measures adopted by the Govt over the matter.
Deriding the act of distributing rice to Moreh denizens amidst the pressing border fencing issue, Boy asserted that the Govt should rather ensure peace and security to its citizens first.
