AR organises Swachhta Hi Seva Divas

Units of 9 and 26 Sectors Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by observing "Swachhata Hi Seva Divas" under which various activities were carried out yesterday.
With an aim to sensitise the youth and locals about the importance of clean and healthy environment, Yaingangpokpi COB organised a cleanliness drive under the flagship mission of 'Swachh Bharat Mission', said a press release issued by PRO, IGAR.
As part of the event, a 2 km Plogging race was organised at Ngarumphung village during which participants picked up the litters in the area.
The locals and youth were fascinated with the new concept of keeping the surroundings clean and healthy and participated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the event.
Likewise, Thoubal Battalion organised a mass cleanliness drive in the area of Chandrakhong village.
The drive commenced with an informative lecture on 'Deforestation and global warming' in which the locals were enlightened on deforestation and global warming, their harmful effects and the benefits of tree plantation to counter it.
The awareness session was followed by a plantation drive in which varieties of saplings were planted.
Tulihal Battalion also organised a cleanliness drive at Sarita Devi Boxing Academy and an interactive lecture on 'Clean and Healthy Environment' was also conducted.
Chandel Battalion organised a cleanliness drive in Chandel, Machi, Larong and Pallel.
Around, 200 personnel from the Battalion and students from Assam Rifles Public School, Pallel participated in the drive, which started early morning and continued till the area was cleared of plastic waste and garbage.
150 students and children of Pallel garrison took part in the cleanliness and the plantation drive wherein 100 saplings were planted.
The effort is in continuation to support the earlier campaigns of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, tree plantation drive and National Bamboo Mission undertaken by Assam Rifles.
The locals expressed gratitude to Assam Rifles for their efforts to sensitise the youth on healthy and clean surroundings.
