Imphal, October 03 2019:
Condemning the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the Citizenship Amendment Bill will be passed and implemented across the country, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has pledged full support to any initiative take up by the MANPAC and NEFIP against CAB.
Speaking to media persons at MPP office at Mapal Kangjeibung today, the party president Oinam Jugindro said that MPP is strongly opposed to the idea of CAB in to grant citizenship to people from other countries if they have settled for 6 years inside the country.
Reminding the Centre of the violent and hostile response from the North East region when CAB was earlier passed by the Lok Sabha, he demanded the Central Government to act as per the sentiment of the people, particularly the North East region when it comes to the controversial CAB.
Jugindro continued that MPP stands with MANPAC and NEFIP in the protest against CAB and added that the party is even prepared to give the ultimate sacrifice to protect the State and its people.
No community will agree to such a Bill, he claimed.
Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood gave up his life in the demand for implementation of ILP in the State.
Numerous organisations and the people have been demanding the Government to implement a safeguard mechanism to protect the indigenous population of the region.
However, till date, even if the Government has changed, the issue of ILP has been left in the dust.
This shows that there is an attempt to exterminate the indigenous people completely, he alleged.
On the other hand, speaking about the peace talk between the NSCN (IM) and the Centre, Jugindro mentioned that MPP will go together with the people in case the agreement affects the integrity of the State in any way.
Stating that two representatives of the party took part in the all political party meeting called by UCM on the issue, the MPP president said that the MPP also resolved to take the ultimate stand in case the peace talk affects the State.
