Jiribam, May 22 2020:
Having extended a helping hand to health officials and District Administration who are handling State returnees different parts of the country via special trains on account of COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers of All Jiribam United Clubs' Association (AJUCA) and Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) had started lodging themselves at quarantine centres considering the safety of their respective families.
Supporting the initiatives of the State Government in bringing back the stranded State natives, volunteers of AJUCA and JDO have been helping State officials including screening teams at Jiribam Railway Station though enough protective gears were not provided.
Speaking to media, president of JDO N Sadananda Meitei said that the volunteers only had face masks, hand gloves and sanitizers as protective gears to help the officials conduct screening and other formalities as per the standard operating procedure.
Considering the risk of getting an infection as the virus causing COVID-19 is very tricky, they had to go for quarantining themselves, he said.
Volunteers of AJUCA are taking shelter at quarantine centre being set up at the office of Uchathol Pioneer Club from May 20 onwards while JDO volunteers are quarantining themselves at Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) starting from May 19 .
It may be mentioned that volunteers of the two bodies were helping the State officials since the arrival of the first batch of 1140 stranded persons from Chennai on May 13 .
