Barak safe

As it had intuition of cyclone Amphan, Barak, the Amur Falcon which was fitted with satellite radio transmitter at Puching village, Tamenglong district in November-December last year to study their migratory route, took shelter at a safer place.
After roosting the winter season in South Africa, Barak on May 14 waited for cyclone Amphan to go past Odissa and West Bengal at Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh which is located about 300 Kms away from the sea coast of Odissa, according to Wildlife Institute of India scientist Dr Suresh Kumar.
When the Amur Falcon took shelter at Kondagaon, the Governments of West Bengal and Odissa had not yet started evacuation of people settled along the shores of Bay of Bengal.
Barak resumed its homeward journey at a speed of 30 Kms per hour only after cyclone Amphan reached West Bengal and the cyclone had subsided over the Bay of Bengal.
Dr Suresh Kumar said that Barak is presently flying over the Bay of Bengal.
Chiulon and Irang, the other two Amur Falcons which were also fitted with satellite radio transmitters have already reached China.
