AR, students plant saplings

Kakching, May 22 2020:
Kakching Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) has planted over 15,000 saplings in and around Sajik Tampak areas, Joupi, Kakching and Sehlon till date.
Considering the manifold benefits of trees including lessening the effects of global warming, Kakching Sector conducts the tree plantation drive time and again, said a statement of IGAR (S) .
Taking this noble initiative with an aim to involve the young volunteers, a 'tree plantation drive' was organized by Sajik Tampak Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 28 Sect AR/ IGAR (S) on May 13, it said adding that Sajik Battalion incorporated students and locals to plant saplings from Khullen village to Saint Mary School.
Stating that a total of 700 saplings of various varieties such as mango, jack fruit, jamun, guava, pears and pine were planted, the statement added that all students and locals were distributed masks before starting the plantation drive.
The primary aim of plantation drive was to inculcate the importance of trees in maintaining ecology among students and locals and the secondary aim was to effectively manage stress among students & local populace in times of COVID-19 pandemic and positively engage them in a meaningful and noble cause of preserving nature, it added.
A total of 23 students and 18 localities participated in the event which was organized adhering to all COVID-19 precautions like maintaining physical distancing and wearing of masks, said IGAR (s) .
