Court directs SP Vigilance

Division Bench High Court of Manipur yesterday directed SP Vigilance Manipur to gather all materials relating to alleged irregularities in implementation of MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) and file report in the Court.
The direction was given by Division Bench comprised of Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice A Bimol Sharma during the hearing of a PIL via video conferencing yesterday.
The PIL had sought Court directives to authorities concerned, particularly Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, Commissioner (RD&PR), Director (RD&PR), Deputy Commissioner Kakching, DC Thoubal, Zila Parishad, Pradhan, Members of the Maibam Uchiwa Gram Panchayat to hand over all the job cards of the MGNREGS and bank pass books including ATM cards along with pin numbers to the beneficiaries strictly as per the statutory guidelines of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 within a certain stipulated period of time.
As an interim measure, the Court further directed that the respondents DC Thoubal, DC Kakching and Block Development Officers of Kakching should ensure that no wages/money under MGNREGS should be released to the job card holders/beneficiaries of Maibam Uchiwa Gram Panchayat without verifying the genuineness of the beneficiaries.
The Court fixed June 15 for further hearing of case.
