Farmers' Field Day held at Ukhongshang

Manipur cannot develop without the development of farmer's income and to become a self-reliant and economically sound State, implementation of various agricultural policy at ground level is' required to enhance the agricultural yields of the farmers, said vice-chancellor, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, Professor M Premjit.
The vice-chancellor said this statement while speaking in Farmers' Field Day organized by Directorate of Extension Education, Central Agricultural University, Imphal under the collaborative project of DRMR-CAU regarding 'Front line demonstration on zero tillage cultivation of Rapeseed Mustard in Rice Field' at Ukhongshang in Thoubal district as chief guest.
He further said that new and improved farming technique is required to increase the production of farm produce which will help increase the income of the farmers adding that CAU with the support of farmers has initiated various programmes to help farmers grow different seasonal crops and vegetables to improve their yields.
Saying that lack of proper agriculture canal is the main reason for most of farmers to cancel growing of vegetables and other crops once the paddy season is over, the VC maintained that the Govt is trying to solve the problem by building long canal that can cater the required water to the farmers while adding that CAU has also dug up many ponds to supply the water.
He also informed that mustard seeds can be grown with zero tillage with minimal water adding that 12 kg of mustards can be cultivated in one paari.
The Farmers' Field Day event was also attended by Professor Ratan Kumar Saha, Director of Extension Education CAU Imphal; Director of Research, CAU Imphal Dr CA Srinivasamurthy; Director of Instruction Dr S Bashanta Singh; Registrar Professor K Mamocha Singh, scientist Dr Arunkumar Singh from BaaraPani, Meghalaya; and coordinator Farmer Club Ukhongshang, Maibam Bijen as dignitaries.
