Moreh woman duped of gold; 6 caught for peeling off gold layer in name of polishing ornament

Six non-locals were rounded up today by volunteers of Meitei Council Moreh for duping a woman from Moreh in which they tricked her and peeled off some layers of her gold ornaments in the name of polishing the ornaments.
The women came to know that she was duped by two non-locals two days back after her gold ornament loss its sheen which was confirmed by a jeweller too.
She also found her gold ornament mixed with copper.
The two persons were identified as Lalan Sah and Tunna Kumar.
On further questioning, they revealed that a team of 8 persons were involved in the trade, out of which, the volunteers were able to round up 4 persons from the area.
They said that the team have been staying in Moreh for the past 5 days after they stayed at Moirang for 10 days.
Later, they were let go after compensating the loss amount.
The four rounded-up persons were Dhuri Saha, Shravan Saha, Khasi Saha and Ramdev Saha.
Speaking to the media persons, president Meitei Council Moreh, M Thoiba appealed the public to stay alert about such thieves.
