Sensitization workshop on Palliative care conducted at Wangkhem

A community based sensitization workshop on Palliative care, which has been continuously organized by NCD Cell, District Health Society Thoubal in the district, under the supervision of State Palliative Cell, Manipur and under the sponsorship of National Programme for Palliative Care (NPPC), to make the public fully aware about 'Palliative care', was conducted at Health and Wellness Centre, Wangkhem today.
The sensitization workshop was attended by Pradhan Wangkhem GP, Md Fazal Khan; DLO/DNO, NCD (Non Communicable Diseases) Cell Thoubal, Dr Kh Homeshwor; and District Programme Manager, District Health Society Thoubal, Ch Basanta Singh as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, resource person Dr Sareo said that we have a big role to play to improve the quality of life for terminally ill and aged patient.
He further said that palliative care was introduced in the State to increase comfort of the patient who are suffering from life-limiting diseases such as cancer, diabetes, kidney diseases etc, and to provide relief from the mental stress to their family.
Usually, the sick person's concerns are pain, fears about the future, loss of independence, worries about their family and feeling like a burden, he said and added that most of families cursed the sick person for incurring huge amount of expenses in the treatment, which makes the patient more stressful and miserable.
He maintained that the sick person can also be given proper care at home by the specialized doctors.
Later, a team of doctors visited each house to identify if that family have patient needing palliative care and were examined properly.
Village, students, religious leaders, ASHA workers and ANMs, cancer patients also attended the programme.
