Imphal, March 16 2019:
Expressing disappointment with the disputes over the constitution of Tribal Market Vendor's Association (TMVA) as well as constitution of Management Committee/Tribal Market Welfare Committee, the All Tribal Rights Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) has stated that the State Government established the tribal market at New Lambulane for all the tribal communities of the State and informed that the market is meant to provide a proper market space to vendors of all tribal communities, without being confined to any particular community.
A press release issued by general secretary of ATRPFM mentioned that the said market was not constructed for any particular community by excluding all other tribal communities.
As such all tribal communities can enjoy free and fair access to the market on the basis of the doctrine of Christianity and of tribal customary practices, it added.
ATRPFM clarified that at the moment it won't point fingers at anyone but opined that there is definitely something wrong with the management and operation of the said market.
If the tribal people seek justice and at the same time keep on committing injustice among themselves then it would amount to double standard, added the statement.
Stating that the management team or decision making body shall consists of all communities, ATRPFM requested all the tribal Christian vendors to adjust, cooperate and accommodate each other and cautioned anyone or any organisation disturbing the smooth functioning of the said market in public interest.
It also appealed to the State Government and the apex Tribal Civil Organisations to intervene into the matter at the earliest.
