Imphal, August 08 2017:
Alleging gross anomalies in the selection of beneficiaries of the schemes taken up by Minority & other Backward Classes & Schedule Caste Department (MOBC), Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) urged the State Government to initiate action against those who deprive rights of the minority .
Addressing media persons at its office located at Hatta this evening, MMWO president Abdullah Pathan said that the Central Government has been taking up various schemes to improve financial condition and provide accommodation for the minority .
He said that the Central Government sanctioned huge amount of money to implement such schemes through various Departments for the welfare of minority in the State .
However, instead of implementing the schemes accordingly, MOBC Department in collusion with some influential officials has been siphoning off the funds sanctioned by the Central Government, he contended .
Referring to the selection of beneficiaries of Tailoring & Embroidery under EDP scheme taken up by the Department in 2015-16, he claimed that more 80 percent beneficiaries of the total 615 were fraudulently selected .
When the organisation conducted a survey in the Muslim dominated areas based on complaints received from certain sections, it came to light that names and addresses of many of the beneficiaries do not exist.
It were created just to siphon off funds sanctioned by the Central Government for implementing the scheme .
Questioning credibility of the Department, he recalled that the Department in the past came under the spotlight for not properly implementing Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit cum Means Scholarship for minority students and for misappropriating funds sanctioned under EDP scheme .
Reiterating that the organisation had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on July 8 last against the irregularities committed by the Department officials, he drew the attention of the State Government to aware of such wrongdoings by Government officials and ensure that minority communities of the State get their deserving rights.
