A new regional political party christened National Samaj Party (NSP) has been established and a formal announcement to this effect was made at Manipur Press Club here today.
Lourembam Birendra, the first president of the new party said that the due procedures to set up NSP started in 2007.Since then, it has been following the necessary processes with the Election Commission.
On being asked as to why a new regional political was felt needed when there were already regional parties in Manipur, Birendra observed that the constitutions and rules of the existing regional political parties were remarkable but somehow these regional did not enjoy people's faith any more.
Moreover, most of these parties have lost their regional characteristics.
The new party would do away with the disappointment felt by educated young candidates at the time of elections as they were often denied party tickets.
NSP would field its candidates in both the parliamentary constituencies of Manipur in the next Lok Sabha elections.
Birendra said that he himself would contest in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency.
The new party has also elected Oinam Ningthemjao as its vice-president, K Naradeva as general secretary and L Bidyachand as treasurer.
