National Science Day celebrated

Imphal, February 28 2013:
National Science Day 2013 with this year's selected theme "Genetically Modified Crops and Food Security" was celebrated at Imphal on Thursday.
The function was organized by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, Government of India at Science Aquarium, DM College of Science complex.
LP Golmei, Principal Secretary, MASTEC, Ng Brajakumar Singh, Principal, DM College of Commerce and Th Surendranath Singh, Director, MASTEC graced the function.
A book "Footprints of Pioneer Scientists Volume I" by Debananda S Ningthoujam, Ph D, Department of Biochemistry, Manipur University, was released on the occasion.
The 187-page book contains 23 chapters.
The author writes biographies of 23 eminent scientists from India, China, Japan, America and Europe.
The day is celebrated every year across the country to honour the Nobel laureate- Sir C.V.Raman for his invention of the 'Raman Effect' on February 28, 1928 .
Various activities are organised on the day, like debates, quiz competitions, exhibitions, lectures, in which college students, school students and teachers participated.
