Imphal, February 28 2013:
Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) has suspended its indefinie 'public blockade' because of the appeal made by the Kuki students in view of the class X and clas XII examinations in Manipur.
However, the KSDC slammed the government for the alleged militarisation in the Kuki inhabited areas in Manipur to escort the Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) Car Rally from point Jiribam-Phaitol of Tamenglong district to Moreh, Chandel district.
"The government, instead of addressing the legitimate demand of the Kukis had promulgated Section 144 CrPC and dispersed the peaceful protesters with iron fist, which is totally against the principle of the 'father of the nation', Mahatma Gandhi and fundamental principle of the largest democratic country, India.
What a shame! The tag of BCIM Car rally for HERALING A NEW ERA OF REGIONAL CO-OPERATION and SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT was welcome with BLACK FLAGS, PLACARDs and non-cooperation of the BCIM Car Rally leading to down shutters of business establishments and closing down of all educational institutions in Moreh, Chandel District and protestors blocking the Road with their placards in Tamenglong District showed the hollowness of the Rally.
Would there be development without peace? Are the Kukis not citizens of India? The development and progress of the regions lies in the peaceful co-operation of the local populace.
Kukis are not against development and progress but it should not be at the cost of our rights.
The KSDC will continue our struggle for the Kuki solution," it pledges the KSDC.
The Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) then said it had decided to suspend the ongoing public blockade on all the life lines of present Manipur inhabited by the Kukis from 7:30 pm today i.e.February 28, 2013 as appeals to the committee by the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), General Headquarter (the apex students' body of the Kukis) in view of the ongoing HSLC and HSSLC examination conducted by BSEM and COHSEM.
"The executive committee also resolved to launch another course of agitation.
KSDC express gratitude to all who stands with us throughout the public blockaded and appeals remain with us as we still have way to go, till our demand is achieved.
Please continue your support," it added.
