Imphal, February 28 2013:
In view of the enquiry ordered by the Supreme Court in response to petitions filed by civil society organisations against extra judicial killings committed by security forces under the cloak of several 'black laws' imposed in the State for the last several decades, many civil society organisations have appealed to the victim families to submit detailed affidavits of their particular cases without any fear or apprehension.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, Human Rights Alert (HRA) Director Babloo Loitongbam said that security forces have been violating human rights rampantly under the cloak of several black laws, particularly AFSPA.
The Supreme Court, after hearing complaints of the people, constituted a en enquiry commission to probe into seven cases out of 1528 for a thorough enquiry.
The commission has already opened its office at Manipur Bhavan, Sardar Patel Marg, Chanakyapuri, Delhi and started its work after issuing a public notice on February 9 .
However, at the request of several organisations like HRA, IPHAM etc, commission secretary PS Murti issued another public notice on February 24 according to which the commission would open another office at Hotel Classic here where people can submit affidavits related to cases of extra judicial killings on March 2 and 3 .
In case of any difficulty regarding submission of affidavits, any one can approach HRA office at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai or contact 91+9856675683 or 91+8974088818, Babloo said.
The press meet was also attended by functionaries of NIPCO, UCM, FREINDS, CADA, AMADA, AMKIL, COHR etc.
