Imphal, February 28 2013:
A sit-in-demonstration staged today at Khoyathong Andolan Keithel strongly criticised involvement of an Indian Army officer in smuggling psychotropic drugs.
During the day-long demonstration held under the aegis of Working Group of Meira Paibi Movement, the protestors put up banners/posters denouncing the Army's involvement in antisocial activities besides demanding shifting of the transit camp of central security forces from its present location at M Sector, near Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
Along with lambasting Central forces for alleged continuous atrocities against the people of Manipur by misusing AFSPA 1958, they also accused the indian army of plotting to wage proxy war by drowning the younger generation with intoxicating substances.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the protest session, agitation-host convenor L Memchoubi lamented that inspite of taking the oath to protect citizens at the time of joining service involvement of an Indian Army officer in drug smuggling tantamount to destroying the future pillars of the society.
She strongly demanded that both the Central and State Governments take stringent punitive action against those individuals indulging in drug smuggling or supporting the smugglers.
