International Day of Biodiversity 2020 observed in Kakching

Kakching, May 22 2020:
As part of International Day of Biodiversity 2020, staffers of Kakching Range Office, Pallel and Wangoo Lamkhai BO planted 25 tree saplings each at two quarantine centre opened for Kakching district, today.
Speaking at the programme, Range Forest Officer, Kakching, N Munal Meitei said that the World Biodiversity Day is observed evey year on May 22 to raise awareness about the importance of protecting biological resources.
COVID-19 has affected the lives of millions of people globally and many Manipuris returning from different States have also tested positive, RK Munal said and appealed all to follow the guidelines of health experts and the State Government to ward off the dreaded disease.
About the tree plantation, RK Munal said that the 25 tree saplings were planted in the name of those Manipuris who were infected by the novel coronavirus.
Wishing for the early recovery of all the COVID-19 patients of Manipur, he appealed all to plant at least one plant in their surrounding to make Manipur a green and clean State.
On the other hand, M Asnikumar Singh (Environmentalist), State vice president BJP Manipur Pradesh said in a statement that the United Nation adopted May 22 as International Day for Biological Diversity in December 2000.This day is often overlooked and it is understandable as people are busy trying to outdo each other in this age of rapid development and growth, he said and pointed out that current trend and trajectory of developmental practices will have serious consequences for the diversity not just of the region but for the globe as a whole.
Environmentally ethical and sustainable techniques of earth's bioresources should always be our top priority.
It is our duty and responsibility to leave an environmentally sustainable future for our children, said the BJP leader.
