Imposter 'lineman' finally lands up in police net

A person who cuts electric wires of pre-paid consumers and then mends it after collecting money from the consumers as repairing charges was caught by police today from Paona Bazaar.
The arrested person has been identified as one Md Maliya (39), s/o Md Riyaj-ud-din of Hatta Golapati.
He was caught by the police and locals during the act.
A screwdriver was recovered from his custody.
He is currently in the custody of City Police station.
According to a non-Manipuri resident in Paona Bazaar, Md Maliya was caught today at around 11:30 am from Paona Bazaar by Manipur Police Commandos.
He came to Paona Bazaar area near Jain Mahavir disguised as a lineman of Electricity department and collected money from the pre-paid consumers of Paona Bazaar as charge for repairing the cut off electric wires.
He had also collected Rs 200 each from the people residing in Paona and Thangal Bazaar area on the pretext of connecting pre-paid lines and the people of the area have been on guard for catching him, he added.
L Ibochouba, Executive Engineer of Imphal Electrical Division-I said that the department has been investigating on the issue after it was highlighted in some local newspapers that a person has been collecting Rs 200 from consumers for giving pre-paid connection.
It is very fortunate that the person was finally arrested by the police today.
He further appealed to the people to stay away from such crooks in future and to inform the police or the department if such incidents occur in future.
