Assault slur cast on Director of Horticulture Dept

Deputy Director (Headquarters) of Horticulture and Soil Conservation has accused its Director of physically assaulting him at the office of the Directorate today.
Director N Joymati Devi allegedly slapped him and kicked him twice before throwing a chair which missed him, said Deputy Director N Madhurja.
The alleged incident happened at around 2 pm at the office of the Directorate at Sanjenthong.
Speaking to media persons at the conference hall of the Directorate, senior officer N Madhurja said 'former Director' N Joymati Devi had retired from service in October last year and was re-engaged as the Director on contract by the Government.
She came to join office yesterday also and she was yet to sign the contract in the format provided by the Finance Department's Pay Implementation Cell.
"I was called to her office with the Cashier and we talked on issues related to our office.
Then she suddenly slapped me on my face and kicked me twice," he said, claiming the Director also threw a chair which missed him as other staff intervened.
"We work under the same Directorate and it is unfortunate that the Director had resorted to such action.
She not only beat me but has humiliated me," Madhurja said, adding that the incident has affected the morale of the staff and functioning of the Directorate.
The incident will have a bad impact on the society at large and such an officer should not be sent to the Directorate, he said and mentioned that he had only recently recovered from undergoing an operation due to kidney ailment.
In December, he was also down with COVID-19, said Madhurja.
All Manipur Horticulture and Soil Conservation Technologist Association's general secretary, Dr L Jeebit, who was also present said the association has held a meeting regarding the incident.
The meeting strongly condemned the unparliamentary action of the Director and has decided to hold a sit-in protest denouncing the incident on February 1.Future course of action will be discussed in the next meeting of the association, he said.
