Imphal, January 30 2021:
Teaching community of the Dhanamanjuri College of Science staged a sit-in protest wearing black badges at the college gate today demanding implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 .
At the sit-in protest, DM College of Science Teachers' Association (DMCOSTA) general secretary Dr Longjam Rajen said the association supports the demand of the FEGOCTA (Federation of Government Teachers' Associations), Manipur and is ready to take part in any protest called by the federation.
The protest was held wearing black badges as a mark of protest against the Government apathy towards the teachers.
"Classes have not been affected by this protest, but we can and will boycott classes if the apathy continues," he said.
It has been five months since the Cabinet approved the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 .
However, no implementation order has been issued till today while all the other Government employees are enjoying the 7th Pay.
Other States have long implemented the pay scale for teachers, he said, adding that the teachers are apprehensive that the Government would not implement the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 within this financial year.
Further delay in implementing the pay will harm the interest of the teachers as well as the students and affect the State's higher education sector.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh should intervene and address the plight of the Government teachers by implementing the pay at the earliest.
DMCOSTA under FEGOCTA may launch stringent protests including class boycott, if the appeal is not heard, he said.
