Imphal, January 30 2021:
Taking a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress MLA Konthoujam Govindas has claimed that the Governments in the Centre and the State are good at only delivering speeches.
Speaking to media persons during a felicitation ceremony of 126 households who joined Congress at Kakching Khunou under Sugnu Assembly segment on Friday as chief guest, the Congress leader continued that people of Manipur are now aware of the saffron party's pretence and empty promises and it is only Congress that can save the State.
Govindas is the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Since the coming of the BJP led Government, the country is witnessing not only the price of petroleum products and the unemployment rate increasing sharply, but also the economy slowing down, he added.
Govindas also claimed that the saffron party is waging war against independent institutions like CBI, RBI, Supreme Court.
Enforcement Directorate etc.
This Government has the will to appoint Shaktikanta Das who did Master in History as the Governor of RBI for playing a crucial role in demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1,000 currency notes in 2016, the MLA charged.
Fearing arrest, the media, which is considered as the fourth pillar of a democracy, is unable to report the truth, Govindas claimed.
The MLA continued that the incumbent Government is an expert in changing the name of already existing schemes and announcing new schemes blindly.
Recalling that the BJP led Government, in 2014, had announced depositing Rs 15 lakh each in zero balance bank accounts, the Congress leader charged that they (the Government) still have no answer for this empty promise.
Govindas also asked where the Rs 22,000 crore package announced by the then Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for improving State's infrastructure in 2017 has gone.
In a sharp attack, the Congress leader also asked Chief Minister N Biren Singh to stop making announcements for a while and finish the Secretariat building near his home first.
Paraphrasing a popular idiom "Rome wasn't built in a day," Govindas asked how can BJP completely build Manipur in just 4 years when Congress couldn't do in 15 years.
Recalling that the Congress convened a meeting on January 6 and 7 last to discuss strategy to strengthen the party, he maintained that a book which highlighted development projects taken up by the Congress in its 15 years tenure was released during the meeting and the same will be made to the public soon.
Speaking about Sugnu AC MLA, Govindas said that he fondly addressed K Ranjit as Dada Yaima for his generosity and dedication to his duty.
Govindas expressed confidence that Ranjit will surely win the next Assembly election by at least a margin of 5,000 to 6,000 votes.
Saying that the Congress will work according to the aspiration of the people, he urged the people of Manipur to support MPCC.
Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit also spoke at the event.
Ranjit said that dubbing him a leader who has done nothing for the people by Chief Minister N Biren Singh recently is truly unfortunate.
"Personally speaking, I regard the Chief Minister as a friend with whom I have served the State together as an MLA or Minister for three terms under the leadership of former CM Okram Ibobi," Ranjit maintained.
"However, he (N Biren) blaming Congress, which he was part of, for doing nothing in its 15 years tenure and dividing hill-valley relation is absurd," he added.
Lauding N Biren for holding a Cabinet meeting in various hill districts and taking up development projects there, Ranjit, however, charged that the efforts of the CM cannot compare with his.
MLA K Meghachandra and Sugnu BCC president also attended the ceremony among others.
