Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2021 launched

"Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2021" was launched today to commemorate the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi towards the cause of Leprosy eradication and to make India Leprosy free.
The programme was organised by the District Health Society Thoubal at Urban Primary Health Centre Phouden in Thoubal district.
CMO Thoubal, Dr N Jayantakumar Singh; Dr Kh Homeshwar Singh, District Leprosy Officer Thoubal; Ch Basanta Singh, District Programme Manager, District Health Society and Dr M Rakhesh Meetei, MO in- charge UPHC Phouden attended the inaugural function as presidium members.
Addressing the programme, Dr N Jayantakumar stated that Gandhiji was a crusader against leprosy and fought continuously to end all forms of Leprosy related discrimination, stigma and prejudice.
The disease can be treated successfully using Multi Drug Therapy (MDT) and the recovery rate increases if diagnosed early, he added.
Similarly, the "Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2021" was also held at CMO Imphal West Complex where the CMO led the floral tributes paid to a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
The programme was organised with the theme "Early detection and prompt treatment of new Leprosy case having pale skin patches with loss of sensation, weakness and tingling sensation of hands and feet to prevent stigma & discrimination and deformity".
Poster campaign, Interpersonal communication (IPC) at CHC/PHC/HWC and appeal from Gram Sabha Pramukh/PRI member to remove stigma and discrimination against person affected with Leprosy, were the main highlights of the campaign.
