Senapati/Chandel, January 30 2021:
The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has endorsed the "Indefinite Bandh" in all Naga inhabited areas of Manipur called by KAJAC.
Considering the importance of protecting our land and identity, the demand of KAJAC is genuine and logical, it added.
The Konsakhul Area Joint Action Committee (KAJAC) had announced an "indefinite total bandh" from the midnight of January 31, 2021, along the National and State Highways in Manipur, including all the National projects in Naga inhabited areas of the State.
Earlier, KAJAC in a statement informed that in response to the Government of Manipur's arrogance and indifferent attitude towards the hill people by suppressing the rights of the traditional landowner and grabbing tribal land forcefully for construction of the proposed NSU, it has been forced to carry out such agitation.
The SDSA also condemned the use of force against the peaceful and democratic protesters and endorsed the demands of KAJAC for suspension of the officer in charge involved in the alleged firing of live bullets against the unarmed protesters.
Essential services including medical emergency, fire brigade, media, power, water supply and telecommunication have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
The Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) has also endorsed the bandh call from the midnight of January 31 .
The NSUC strongly condemns the "use of sophisticated" weapons against the "peaceful" protesters, it said supporting KAJAC's call for bandh on National and State Highways.
KAJAC had called the bandh accusing the Government of grabbing tribal land for construction of the National Sports University.
The JAC had" also stated that all National projects in Naga areas will also be stopped during the bandh.
The call for bandh came after the incident at the NSU (National Sports University) site yesterday that left at least 5 persons injured in a scuffle with the police.
A mob had burnt down three worksheds and damaged one JCB and a car during.
